Carbon Steel Flanges

Carbon Steel Flanges

Carbon steel flange solutions from MJ Forgings are engineered to deliver strength, reliability, and long service life across demanding industrial applications. Carbon steel flanges and end flange connectors are manufactured using high-quality carbon steel materials and conform to globally accepted standards such as ASTM A694, ASTM A105N (SA105N), MSS SP-44, and DIN 2533. These steel flanges are available in pressure classes ranging from Class 150 to Class 2500, making them suitable for low to high-pressure piping systems.

Carbon steel is defined as steel with carbon content up to 2.1% by weight. As per AISI definitions, no minimum alloying elements such as chromium, molybdenum, nickel, titanium, or vanadium are required. Copper content does not exceed 0.04%, manganese is limited to a maximum of 1.65%, and silicon is restricted to 0.06%. With increasing carbon content, carbon steel becomes harder and stronger after heat treatment, though ductility and weldability reduce when heat treatment is not applied.

ASTM Carbon Steel Grades

ASTM A105N (SA105N) is one of the most widely used materials for forged carbon steel flanges. It is ideal for ambient and higher-temperature pressure systems, offering durability, cost advantages, and resistance to mechanical stress.

ASTM A350 (SA350) LF2 is designed for low-temperature applications and includes notch toughness testing, making it suitable for energy, petrochemical, and pipeline industries.

ASTM A694 is a more rigorous carbon steel flange material developed for high-pressure oil and gas transmission. Each grade includes minimum yield strength requirements for both low and high-temperature service conditions.

Manufacturing and Standards

Carbon steel flanges are produced through forging or casting processes. Forged steel flanges provide higher tensile strength, better grain structure, and superior performance in pressure pipelines compared to cast iron flanges, which are generally limited to non-pressure applications.

Referred standards include ASME B16.5, B16.34, B16.47, MSS SP-44, and API 605.

Coating Options
